Knysna Oyster Festival 21km

Comrades hurt me quite a bit this year, physically it wasn’t as bad as last year, running 89km on legs which have only run 300km in 6 months isn’t a great idea to start with but I found this year I had to dig into my soul a lot more. It was a very big mental and emotional push to the line.

Because of that and the fact that its dark and cold at the moment, I have only run 3 short times since end of May which when I think about it has been 5 weeks odd. But since I am one of the original members of Wingit.com I have decided to run the Knysna Oyster Festival 21km tomorrow. I am road tripping 6hrs today by car to get there and will run tomorrow morning.

Of course I have a plan, which is the only way to approach any race, Plan for it, from the beginning to the end. For starters I know its really cold so the kit i wear is going to be an important choice, nutrition to get me to the line etc. What shoes to wear, all that is planned and selected specifically for tomorrow’s course in mind.

How fast i run will depend on how I feel when I wake up, but here is what I am going to plan to run if I feel good when I wake up tomorrow.

Run the first 10km in a consistent pace : 48min and then the 2nd 10km a bit quicker at 46min, finishing on 1.38min for the 21km, Negative splits are always hard to do even when you fit so this is going to be quite a challenge.

I don’t run these often, but its a great distance and I love standing at a starting line so look forward to going into the hurtbox tomorrow.

Have a great weekend and be safe out there. God Bless, finally something to make you giggle, after all you have survived the week, its the weekend baby.
